Lost! - Baja Divide Cape Loop - Bikepacking Adventure Ep 6
We attempt to take a mere 6 mile shortcut to regain the main Baja Divide trail after visiting El Triunfo and it all goes wrong quickly. Getting lost certainly adds to the challenges of an already difficult adventure.
The Baja Divide may be one of the hardest bikepacking routes in the world. Last year, Eric Archer and I completed most of the route from San Diego California to the Southern part of the East Cape just South of La Paz Baja California Sur. This year we decided to pick up where we left off and complete the Cape Loop- a 250 mile loop, off pavement and often through very remote sections of beautiful Baja Mexico.

KTM 390 ADVENTURE Modifications, Upgrades and Long Term Review
Looks like a cattle trail you are trying to follow. Major strugglefest!!
Ha ha. Yeah. It wasn’t much more than a cattle track.
Awesome footage & way better conditions than the last big trek. You both exude incredible mental toughness
Thanks Ralph. It is always a struggle bus.
Bushwhacking arroyo was better suited for cows!
Ha ha. Yep! Less bushwhacking and more riding would be good.
Hi yall is there a name where to buy those according steps it’s hard to find
They are tork lift glow steps. Can be gotten online at etrailer
the bike looks amazing! and the loading is epic
Thank you! And thanks for Watching.
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for watching!
Where do you have the Battle born batteries stored on this build?
The batteries are in one of the pods at the very front top of the habitat M1079 box.
Are you able to ride side by sides on the divide trail ?
Yes, many parts of it. There are certainly some sections that are more single track though.
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure, thank you for watching.
For a guy who delights in being off the beaten path and being self sufficient, your helmet bouncing around on your bike rack probably won't help much if you're out there and crash.
True. I guess that is the old school old guy coming out. Still here after growing up without a helmet in sight.
It's been 3 months since we finished the Cape Loop and we still haven't decided on our next adventure!!
We better start working on that.
Awesome! I have ridden that route many times on my moto, but on a a bicycle, that it impressive. I love the the cactus preserve in El Rosario. Very well done and interpretive trail.
Thanks man!
Are lights 12v or 110v?
Lighting is 12 volt
Konnte diesen Teil leider nicht anschauen, dieses üble Gelaber und Selbstdarstellung nervt dermaßen....musste abstellen
Maybe you were in a grumpy mood.
Holy crap...You just passed me on 550 in Colorado....you were headed north....
Awesome! Small world.
Just watched the vid of this truck tour on another channel and came to see what you have been up too. This think is amazing whoever got it for 140k is a steal
Thanks for visiting. Market is a little soft for these trucks right now I believe.
@@drivetheglobe awesome channel after I commented on this vid I’ve been binging your vids for the last five days. You seem like an awesome person, keep bringing the smiles and joy with you!
I'll give you a lot of credit fat tire bikes are some serious exercise. You will get stronger every day. Enjoy the vids, keep on trucking my friends have been there know the pain. SJ
Thank you for the kind words.
Love reliving the fun through your videos!
Thanks so much Ryan, just editing the video makes me want to go back.
Hey Ryan how is John and Mira, haven't heard from them in awhile. Been watching your trips with Jaba very entertaining. SJ
Another great episode. Grat trip and video.
Thank you Gary!
you guys inspire mental toughness! Nice video coverage as always. Stay the course!
Thank you Ralph!
Watching this made me run out a buy some frijoles!! Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner of champions!
Ha ha! Definitely taste better than they look.
That ramp is sick!!
Honestly, the ramp is my favorite part of the truck. Ha ha, always all about the moto!
Again, an incredible build! You've outdone yourself in this build.
Thank you so much!!
Outstanding build !
Thank you! Cheers!
What time did you guys ride it? Rain ?
Alot of rain in the North. Jan-Feb
Great video! I have ridden that loop hundreds of times, without exaggeration, and the views still amaze me.
Sure is amazing there.
Great video!!! I have a 2020 with 1v10 and I still dont have the 3rd ride mode. I have asked dealers and evem called KTM directly and they said there is no updates available to add this 3rd ride mode on mine bike. I do have a workaround, Im just disconecting the rear abs sensor and everything is off, forever, but I will like to have that option to keep the abs sensotlr comected but MTC keeps off after stalling.
Interesting. Seems to be very dealer dependent on whether or not they understand that there is an uppdate.
All good except the part of removing the hood from the hinges. Doing so breaks the paint seal and corrosion will start soon.
UGH! That is so true.
Awesome but I'd like to see the whole building process of the outlander and this marvelous transformation from a military truck in detail. Would you care to share the whole uncut videos of that please?
This was episode 20, there is a whole series on this.
I watch a lot of bikepacking videos. A lot of people do not make it all the way. I ride a Surly Moonlander all season long. They are tough but heavy. Should be interesting to catch up and watch how you made out. Be safe, have fun...
Thank you. Love the Surlys but they sure are heavy!
Daniel! Can’t take that kid anywhere! 😂❤
Ha ha. Nope!!
GET IT, guys!
Always trying 🤣. Thank you for Watching.
Nice ride and fantastic lunch spot. The rattler didn't make the cut, or was that a different road trip?
That was a different one. But yes, amazing lunch spot.
I would like you to make travel videos, I really like your videos.
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback.
You guys are living the life !!!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you Jim. Maybe I’ll get to ride with you some time this summer.
What a blast! We had such a fun day. 😎🏍️👍🏻 next time I won’t forget to just hit the kill switch and clutch it down the crazy 🤪 piece! More miles more smile!
So fun!!
Way to get back up on that bike Daniel!
Boom! Right back on it.
That is an awesome stretch of road!! Well done!
You know it! Wasn’t much easier on the motos!
Looks like a great place and beautiful water!
Amazing place!
Spoke wheels are great, but the downside is they are tube tyres.... Really nice video mate😊.. hope you've more fun in the future..
That is true, it is nice to have tubeless tires for sure.
Thanks for sharing. You may want to put a chock between the front wheel and under the fender. before you strap down your 390 onto the lifting frame. You should take the load of your front forks when transporting your bike. That maybe why you have blown the fork seals?
Interesting, never thought of that before.
What was the deciding factor on going with 12v and not a 24v system?
The sytem was largely engineered by my build partner Go Power Solar. The 12 and 24 volt systems are very similiar when using as many charge controllers as I have. Some of it was size dependent based on my roof configuartion and space.
Awesome and outstanding as always
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow. Beautiful unit. I had been watching your build (all the Videos) Hopefully I’ll get to mine soon. Thanks for sharing. Could I ask you where you got your roller garage door. Very very commun in Europe but here in the US it is harder to find. In advance. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for watching. The roll up doors are Gortite and I got them from Dynatect. They will custom make any size and are really very reasonably priced.
@@drivetheglobe Thank you so much for your fast and kind and very helpful information regarding the roll up garage door. Thanks again
I'd love to see you just ride up a ramp and land in the garage 😂😂
That would be interesting.
So weird not seeing a completed build tour of this rig by now. Especially since most of us know it's done and there's a tour of it on another channel.
Just haven't gotten to it yet. Priority is always on adventure first. Lifestyle Overland & Mathers On The Map of done great videos of it. I will be doing a complete tour shortly
Nice garage and loading system. I have a garage in the back of my skoolie, also for my bike, but it's a bit smaller so it fits on the wheelchair lift that came with the bus. It is very nice having an inside storage for the bike and all your other stuff.
Agreed, can't beat it. Just having the stuff inside and not getting dirty all of the time is a win.
I really liked this talk over format. What enjoy most of these expedition or nomad life videos is not only the epic sceneries but mostly the truck being put into use, like cooking, refilling the water tank, all the little bit and bobs, etc...view behind the scene stuff, stuff you don't usually see. Btw... She's a freakin beauty of a beast, total dream expedition vehicle, that machine doesn't belong here mate, it belongs in planet Mars🤙
Thank you so much, although there are a lot of places to explore before I head to Mars. :)
What kind of water filtration / purifying system did you install ? That instant hot water heater is pretty sweet . Will you have a need to install external cameras for security with LED white and red lights for nights ?
I have a UV LED light filtration system as well as a number of inline particulate filters. I will be doing a more in depth look at my water systems in the future episodes. I do have 24hr cameras that transmit to the internet for security. Thanks for watching.
Michael your garage is a “monster garage” of sorts! 😄. Thanks for sharing sir
Ha Ha, it kinda is! Thanks as always for watching.
